The Health Minister, Edwin Poots, is considering fluoridating the country’s water supply. This will mean the highly toxic substance known as hydrofluorosilicic acid will be added to your drinking water and that of your pets.
Hydrofluorosilicic acid is a waste product of the phosphate fertiliser and aluminium industries and due
to the process used to obtain it; it will always contain other toxic elements. A recent sample of water
taken from the Republic of Ireland’s water supply, which has been fluoridated for many years, was
subjected to laboratory analysis. It had lead, arsenic, antimony, mercury and uranium 234 in it –some
of the most highly dangerous substances on the planet. Due its toxicity, the European Union have put
very strict legislation in place when disposing of hydrofluorosilicic acid. Because of this, it is a very
expensive procedure and the industries involved look for other ways to get rid of it and that means
dumping it the water supplies of any country foolish enough to accept it.
No studies have been done with regards to safety levels of hydrofluorosilicic acid, but governments
usually quote an arbitrary level of 1 part per million. However, a sample of cheese taken from the
Republic showed 28 parts per million. Fluoride at 2 parts per million can cause dental fluorosis.
At 4 parts per million it can cause skeletal fluorosis and 8 parts per million it can cause damage to
Because it is put into the water supply and is also in the food chain, there is no way of measuring how
much each individual consumes and anyone at any time could be ingesting extremely dangerous levels.
The Health Minister’s only reason for fluoridation is to treat the tooth decay of young children. The only
problems is this is only the case if it is applied topically ie directly onto the teeth, not taken internally.
He says this is the most cost effective and efficient way to do this. Yet it will cost millions of pounds to
fluoridate all our water, at least 30% of which is lost through wastage according the NI Water’s own
figures and the vast majority of the rest of the water is used by industry and farming. This leaves only
a miniscule percentage of water that actually reaches the target population and how many young
children do you know that actually drink water rather than fizzy drinks? He also ignores the fact that
excessive fluoride can actually cause dental fluorosis.
The ministers’ statement that it is the most cost-effective way of treating tooth decay is patently
preposterous. If you want to treat someone with an illness you give the drug directly to them. An
analogy would be putting chemotherapy drugs in the nation’s water supply to treat cancer patients or
aspirin in the water supply to treat the man who lives in your next village because he has a headache.
It is the most inefficient way imaginable to treat an illness.
Then there is the ethical question. Fluoridating the water supply effectively means medicating the entire
nation against their will. It is unlawful to medicate someone without their informed consent. But if this
absurd plan goes ahead, you will have no choice, you and your pets will poisoned whether you consent
Scientific studies have also shown fluoride to cause
Lowering of IQ.
Obviously if it is toxic to humans it will be toxic to your pets particulalry since their only source of liquid will probably be water. Even if you give them milk this will be produced locally and will also contain fluoride as will any meat sourced within Northern Ireland. As most tinned pet food contains 80% water this will have unknown concentrations of fluoride, in addition to the percantage of fluoride in the meat product. It is recommended even by those people that support fluoridation that no infant under 6 months should ever be given fluoridated water so what devastating health effects will this have on pups, kittens and small animals?
A recent American study showed 8 out of 10 dog food brands had 2.5 times the recommended amount of fluoride in them
Fluoride is used in:
On every level possible, this proposed scheme is utter madness. It is financially irresponsible and
The animals don't have a voice so it up to you to speak up on their behalf. Please stop fluoridation before it gets implemented.

Here are some recent studies highlighting the dangers of flouride to animals:
Fluoride has been definitively shown to poison kidney function at high doses over short-term exposures in both animals and humansA recent animal study, conducted by scientists at the US Environmental Protection Agency (Varner 1998), reported that exposure to just 1ppm caused kidney damage in rats if they drank the water for an extended period of time.
Over 40 animal studies published since 1992 have reported an impairment in plearning and memory processes among the fluoride-treated groups.
Fluoride has been found to cause bone cancer (osteosarcoma) in government animal studies
On a farm in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Quarter horses consuming artificially fluoridated water (up to 1.3 ppm F) for extended periods of time developed classical symptoms of chronic fluoride intoxication including dental fluorosis, crooked legs, hyperostosis and enostosis, hoof deformities, and microscopic evidence of reduced bone resorption
For the tragic story of the devastating effect fluoride had on these horses see below website
A chronic fluoride intoxication in the form of dental and skeletal fluorosis has been observed in tribal subjects and domestic animals (cattle and buffalo)
Even Merck in their own veterinary manual warn of the dangers of fluoride poisoning
Quotes About the Dangers of Fluoride From Medical Professionals
Dean Burke an American biochemist who worked for the National Cancer Institute for 34 years said, "This amounts to public murder on a grand scale. It is a public crime to put fluoride in the drinking water" and also "fluoride causes more human cancer death, and causes it faster than any other chemical"
"Fluoridation is the greatest case of scientific fraud of this century."
Robert Carlton, Ph.D, former EPA scientist, 1992
"Fluoride (that is added to municipal water) is a hazardous waste product for which there is substantial evidence of adverse health effects and, contrary to public perception, virtually no evidence of significant benefits” Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Chapter 280 of the National Treasury Employees Union,.
Animal studies Dr. Phyllis Mullenix, former head of toxicology at Forsyth Dental Center conducted at Forsyth in the early 1990's indicated that fluoride was a powerful central nervous system (CNS) toxin, and might adversely affect human brain functioning, even at low doses. (New epidemiological evidence from China adds support, showing a correlation between low-dose fluoride exposure and diminished I.Q. in children.)
"Over the past ten years a large body of peer-reviewed science has raised concerns that fluoride may present unreasonable health risks, particularly among children, at levels routinely added to tap water in American cities.” ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING GROUP, July 2005.
As acknowledged by the Physicians' Desk Reference, some individuals are allergic/hypersensitive to fluoride. The largest, government-funded, clinical trial found that 1% of individuals exposed to 1 mg/day of fluoride exhibited allergic/hypersensitive reactions, including skin reactions, gastric distress, and headache.
"I am appalled at the prospect of using water as a vehicle for drugs. Fluoride is a corrosive poison that will produce serious side effects on a long term basis. any attempt to use the water this way is deplorable" Charles Gordon Heyd MD Past President, American Medical Association
"Airborne fluorides have caused more worldwide damage to domestic animals than any other air pollutant." - US Department of Agriculture
